anthracite result object

The Result Object is designed to provide a storage place for results to be saved and retrieved within the Anthracite program.

Result Objects serve as the endpoints of your processor chains, and require no configuration.

The main part of the Result Object is the "Outline View" that holds the process results. This outline view shows you the results of your process runs in a heirarchical fashion where by clicking on the "disclosure triangle" to the left of an item, you can "open" it to see its contents.

In this heirarchy, the "top most" items (such as all of the items named "Process Results" in the pictured example) are the collection of output from each time you run your processes (ie, by choosing "Run Process" from the file menu). The "Date" column shows you the date and time the results were generated. Opening these items reveals the individual results from each run, that is, one individual result entry for each upstream object connected to this result object that produced output during the run (however, the output may also be nothing). Each entry below the top level shows you the name of the process chain that produced the results by combining the titles of the individual objects in the process chain. Opening each of these individual result entries shows you the URL from which the results were generated, and the amount of data that is in the result. Some entries may have multiple data parts (an array of results), each of which will be shown with the amount of data it contains.

Now, with the entire heirarchy open, if you double click on the data elements (the items identified by URL with a data size associated), it will open a viewer window in Anthracite that allows you to view the results directly within the program. You can also choose to Preview the results in your favorite browser.

To delete a collection of results from one process run, select the item (eg, a "Process Results" entry in the example shown) and click the Delete button.

[KSL: Delete only works on an entire collection of results from a process run, not individual entries]

Individual result data elements can be previewed or exported from the Result Object's main outline view, select them and click the appropriate button.

NOTE: At the bottom of any main Anthracite Document window, you will see a status message indicating the number of objects in the current document and the size of the document on disk. Generally, if your document is taking up a large amount of disk space, it is because your result objects are full of data that you've collected, especially if you do a lot of trial runs to tune and tweak your processors. To reduce your file sizes, you may often wish to go through your result objects and remove old data that you do not need, or temporary results you collected while developing your process chains. You can also delete the result objects altogether if you no longer need them (for example, after exporting your results to disk), which will free up as much disk space as the result object was holding.
