With everybody talking about data mining and turning "information into intelligence" its hard to pin down what they really mean.

Inspire Software LLC tried to use base Linguistic analysis to begin to uncover patterns in how this "knowledge" is presented both in text format as well as made available on the web. While the issue with standard text has been mostly solved for some time, finding, qualifying, retrieving, and then processing into a usable format the information available on the web was not only a complex task at first glance but one that would either require thousands of man programming hours or about 5 different products. We methodically went about assembling our diverse products to find out that IF THEY WORKED then getting the data to the next one for processing was another herculean task unto itself!

After beating our head against the proverbial wall for about 4 months we decided to try the cheapest product that we had seen that we identified as a contender, Anthracite. We threw Anthracite up against 80 plus meg files to process. And while initially it choked! BUT the support that we received was beyond stellar! Within hours there was an upgrade that included several enhancements as well as the fix that has allowed us to process files now much larger than 80 mb.

Anthracite has allowed us to not worry about "passing" the data between 5 or 6 different products, but was flexible enough to handle almost all of what we wanted, and when it would not it passed the data out EXACTLY the way we needed it to!

This I think is because the program was designed for people with great ideas, and either limited programming experience or time!

If there is data on the web that you want to get at and make "intelligence" I without reservation would recommend buying Anthracite! Today! because I have already told them that their nearest competitor is well over 8 times the price!
